“This will be Gehry's second Bay Area effort. He designed the Sleep Train Pavilion in Concord, and has designed two other winery projects, the as-yet-unbuilt Le Clos Jordan in Ontario and a hotel for Spain's Marques de Riscal that cost a reported 80 million euros ($109 million). Of the projected cost for the new project, Kathryn Hall would say only that "it's frightening," though the couple initially budgeted $100 million to build wineries in St. Helena and Rutherford.” SFGate | Hall Wines: Gehry Project

it has a tendency to evoke visions of a brewery.
on the other hand, gehry's infill projects are usually create a lot of nice in-between spaces.
but, you make a building like that as winery, open it to the public and next day you have a turist attraction but lesser wine. any real wine maker would hate to be a turist attraction baboon in front of the barrels next thing you have wolfgang puck making wine. there is a reason some good wineries are not open to public in a big way or not at all. wine likes serenity. duh.
"tart it up, dumb it down."
^I keep hearing this Sam Donaldson comment in my head nowadays, and it seems to apply to your proposed causation. I'm not sure I agree but I have spent enough time in the Rhone Valley to know that some of the best small allocation vintners are not exactly thrilled to see you in their driveway, and can be dowright surly.
