Hernan Diaz Alonso's latest flash site is finally up and running. Albeit a somewhat quirky interface, the drawings and renderings remain an amazing signature of the house. Be sure to put aside at least 10 minutes of your precious time as there are more than 150 renderings plus another 100 or so drawings (not including lecture and exhibition images). Enjoy. I sure did!

They are so ugly and out of context it almost looks like the architect watched too much War of the Worlds (Speilberg version, unfortunately).
Like the PS1 installation, their web site already shows that even in a virtual medium such as Internet, they are unable to make any meanings or functions out of the pixel animation at the background. They retaliated to show their images in rectangular boxes - not blobs.
what i dont like (im not finished w/it) is that reminds me too much of ASYMPTOTE's website...maybe is the same guy designing it??
it will take you a lot longer than 10 minutes to get through 150 renderings and 100 drawings...i got through about 5 before i gave up.
still, better than the old website.
not getting the point. not even as an art project, much less a portfolio of architectural proposals. maybe this goes hand-in-hand with the whole post-theory/post-critical discussion: are the critics simply at a loss because there's not much here to critique? it's all very beautiful and seductive, but...to what end?
(yawn)
..and the images are too small.
im not a fan of Hernan, but i do enjoy his work in terms that he can still generate controversy... i mean i preffer a website where people have encountered opinions about, than just a plain dull body of work....i believe in architecture as an "agent-provocateur" and im glad there's still around offices like xefirotarch
i looked two projects;
cell phone is fantastic and they should definitely pitch it to pentagon and to other law enforcement industry, people buy it.
there is a big gap between the titles and the context of the projects.
those projects are guaranteed to win something from the competetions by the value of their impossibility and obsurdity.
if you are selling todays tribune from that newstand, project fails. lack of refutation and and presence of complecity becomes the weakest link.
some of the pieces are fascinating in their intricacy.
over rated as theory and under rated as art.
must be some unpaid intern who made the site. Personally i like Hernan as a person, for the record, but i dont get the point of the site.
clarification; i did mean 'obsurd' in a fascinating way...
As usual Hernan gets a lot of heat, but in all fairness it is for a good reason. How many news posts do get this much feedback in such a short amount of time? Whenever I have a chance to post something about Xefirotarch, I do with the expectation of what the ‘necters will comment. I mentioned to Hernan that I wished the drawings were at least presented a little bit bigger since I believe they are quite nice, and for the most part these projects are speculations that trigger others in the profession to trust or dismiss its credibility and possibilities to become material.
I for one, can credit Hernan to stir my curiosity from day one in design studio back in ’04 at the GSAPP. Its been 3 1/2 years since and my partner and I have found our direction and curiosities but for me it all started back in that graduate studio.
My question is; Why does the U2 tower have boobs?
Well, that's not heat. It's not even a controversy. It's just that some of us are complaining about bad web design. Don't take the criticisms with so much ego and think it really stirred something up.
