Last night's hurriedly organized event, Architecture and Urban Design Panel Discussion at UCLA Perloff Hall was uneventful even though the promise of the panel was interesting with distinguished faculty members participating. Each participant took five minutes at the lectern to connect their architectural practice with the academic work they do.
Regardless the energetic personalities involved, the panel discussion afterwards was never charged enough to reach the levels of a debate, and unfortunately produced very little to remember.
One member of the audience got rebellious without a cause and left the room in anger but that was about it.
Anyway,
Ever so pragmatic for my readers, I have used my time to photograph the thesis work in the adjacent room for your information. In a hurry, I forgot the names of the authors and I am now hoping someone will fill us in with the names, upon reading this one percent review of the panel discussion that hardly was. I hope you enjoy this snapshot documentation of the valuable student work.

that is a pretty amazing set of projects. who teaches the studio w/ the two early projects whose projects and graphics have a 60's archigram feel to them? i really dig the quality of the line drawings. is that common at UCLA, or a product of the studio?
wow, it seems like megastructures are back in a big way -- like all the critique of them and problems with realizing them never happened...
Cool. Thanks for the photos!
the pictures seem to tell a fantastic story on their own...
i'm guessing the first couple of projs are from greg lynn's studio, the next set is probably from thom mayne's, and some of the other more 'boxy' mega structures projs could be mark lee's studio. btw, orhan, ucla doesn't have thesis, just research studio.
and, jep, the work looks great! go bruins!
^^^they were.
wasn't mark lee's studio. he was on leave this past year. research studios this past year were dagmar richter, greg lynn, thom mayne, and neil denari.
