Fun article. I think this is a lovely idea: to buy some land and have a tiny impact on it. A few years ago my husband and I were considering buying some vacation land, and a little house like this would have been perfect for its use.
Whenever I see these little buildings up on pilotis, though, I am reminded that to dig holes for two posts 6 feet away from each other is not significantly different from digging a continuous footing between them - and using the insulation of the earth may prove more efficient in the long run.
Also: buying the Katrina cottage at Lowe's? Tell me again why anyone needs an architect?! (kidding!)
how funny, I just noticed a mention of the 'small-house movement' in Sierra this month, and my reaction was, "What 'small-house movement?!" Now I know.
