"A tense calm is reported in the Old City of Jerusalem after clashes between Israeli police and Palestinians erupted at a contested holy site." The protests there are "against excavation work in the area... which protesters say threatens the foundations of the al-Aqsa mosque - Islam's third holiest site." BBC. The BBC also chimes in on "where archaeology is politics," suggesting that "the very stones of Jerusalem are political weapons in the age-old struggle for possession of the Holy Land," where archaeology means "digging for God and country."
