An art installation made out of 100 cast iron life size figures, moulded from the sculptor's own body, is now occupying a beach strip of 3 Km and extending 1Km into the water of the Merseyside coast, UK. After 2006 it will move to NY. (the guardian 1 | 2)

Wow, that's gorgeous! I can't wait to see it in the states! Does the water drop off, making the figures taller? Or is it all a flat plain?
The tide does indeeed rise and fall, variously exposing and covering some of the figures.
The tidal bore in the Mersey at Liverpool is very large creating a spectacular effect. Not unlike Gormley's other great piece in the crypt of Winchester Cathedral, UK:
