Foster + Partners has completed a new home for Greenville County administrators in South Carolina. The new Greenville County Administration Building spans four stories and is designed with a glass curtain wall that “symbolically removes the boundary between the public and government officials.”
The scheme forms part of the wider Greenville County Square master plan by RocaPoint Partners, which seeks to create a link between Falls Park, Cancer Survivor’s Park, and the Swamp Rabbit Trail. The administration building, described by the team as “the cornerstone of the community,” is located on the corner of Church Street and University Ridge.
“The building will make a significant contribution to Greenville County, acting as a place for local people to meet in serene natural surroundings,” said Foster + Partners Head of Studio Nigel Dancey about the development. “The overhanging roof converges to create a shaded plaza, with crisp edges that accentuate the building’s unique form.”
The project’s two office blocks are connected by a shaded public plaza and a footbridge on the third level. The building is clad in warm-colored metal to reflect the surrounding earthy tones and brick masonry of Greenville County, while the perimeter profile holds defined edges to “accentuate the linearity of the facade system.”
Surrounding the scheme is a large public plaza, which will soon contain a fountain, landscaping, and the relocation of the Veterans Memorial Wall, incorporating corten steel to mirror the building’s facade. Meanwhile, cafes and restaurants will activate the plaza to cater to office workers and visitors.
News of the scheme comes one week after Foster + Partners began construction on the Cambodian Techo International Airport under a large canopy roof. Earlier in 2024, meanwhile, site preparations began on Norman Foster’s One Beverly Hills in Los Angeles.
