Following last week’s look at an opening for a Senior Architect at Zuru Group, we are using this week’s edition of our Job Highlights series to explore an open role on Archinect Jobs for a Project Manager at Food Architects DPC.
The role, based in Chinatown, New York, calls for an individual with a bachelor’s degree in architecture, along with over five years of experience in all phases of the design process, from concept and schematic design through design development, construction documents, and construction administration. The candidate must also have experience managing a team of designers, and excellent skills in organization, client communications, project scheduling, and consultant coordination.
Applications for the role close on December 31st, 2023.
Why the role interests us
The role at Food Architects offers us the opportunity to profile a firm that has produced architectural works for an eclectic selection of clients since its founding. Established in 2010 by former Archinect Sessions guest Dong-Ping Wong, the firm began with an initiative to build a swimming pool in the East River and has since built a portfolio of homes, stores, offices, hotels, bridges, and museums around the world.
“Architecture has the ability to create space for the spaceless, to invite people into places that previously didn't exist, and to connect communities with the environments all around them,” the firm says about its ethos. “Architecture can be really amazing if you want it to be.”
To the public eye, one of the firm’s most recognizable projects is the West Kardashian Calabasas House for Kim Kardashian, completed in 2020. The Hidden Hills home saw an overhaul of an existing property to create a “monastic sanctuary at the highest levels of refinement, nuance, and luxury.”
For the late Virgil Abloh, meanwhile, the firm delivered the Off-White Something & Associates store in Tokyo, Japan. Located in a former office building in the Aoyama shopping district, the scheme was developed along a “store-as-office” concept. The resulting space was kept open and minimal, complete with mirrored vintage work desks and a bank teller’s window that functions as a point-of-sale.
