Following last week’s visit to New York-based S9 Architecture, we are using this week’s edition of our Meet Your Next Employer series to explore the work of fellow New York firm Float Studio.
From their office on West 25th Street in Manhattan, the full-service interiors firm specializes in designing creative spaces for start-ups and tech companies. “Every company has a unique story, which can be told through the design of their workspace,” the firm says about its mission. “We help tell that story, and create spaces for our clients to make great things happen.”
Over on Archinect Jobs, the firm is currently hiring for a Summer Design Intern to join their New York office. For candidates interested in applying for the position, or anybody interested in learning more about the studio’s work, we have rounded up five creative workspaces by Float Studio that demonstrates their design ethos.
Completed in 2016, the Float-designed Casper HQ consists of 34,000 square feet of renovated interior space. The space is predominantly open-concept, with flexible “living rooms” that can be closed off using oak pocket doors, acoustically treated meeting nooks, a quiet library, nap pods, and a large town hall area for company-wide meetings and team lunches.
“You know how great you feel after a good night’s sleep? That’s the mood we wanted to create in the new Casper offices,” the team explains. “Lots of light, lots of white, and delicate touches of earth, green, and ice blue inspire and restore.”
Designed to house the life-extending science startup’s 50 employees, the Elysium HQ in SoHo seeks to create places to meditate and relax within a lively urban context. The 6,500-square-foot space features lounge chairs surrounded by heavy planting, acoustic drapes, semi-private desks, and several “focused areas” such as conference rooms and phone booths.
“Scientific, yet warm,” the team says about the project. “An emphasis on texture within a constrained color palette, combined with wood accents and extensive plant life, make this futuristic company's space feel mature and invigorating.”
Located in Lower Manhattan, the Meet in Place headquarters was designed to accommodate a company that offers nomadic workers spaces to host meetings, conferences, and presentations. The resulting office contains minimal, white surfaces and European white oak engineered floors, with emphasis placed on original features such as brick vaulted ceilings and large windows.
“Clean and bright without the blandness that usually comes with designing for a wide audience, Meet in Place’s 5,600 sq. ft. Nassau St. location provides spaces for an endless array of meeting styles and types, across industries,” the team surmises.
Tasting Table’s new headquarters was completed in 2018, offering a modern kitchen, event space, and production studio for the food and drinks enthusiast website. Against the mute-tone walls and exposed ceilings, energy is brought to the space through oxblood panels, elevated planting, and bold-colored furniture.
“A modern space for an evolving brand, Tasting Table’s 2,500 square foot combination kitchen and event space is as detailed as it is utilitarian,” the firm explains. “Matte, oxblood panels and a floating plant grid are the signature elements, both striking and comforting.”
Designed in 2015, Flood52’s 6500-square-foot headquarters is one of three projects Float Studio has undertaken for the recipe-sharing platform. The workplace-kitchen hybrid is dominated by bright, neutral tones, exposed ceilings, and earth-toned accents to seating and furniture.
“The founders wanted to take things up a notch,” the firm notes. “The result is a space that has a place for everything…including people.”
