Will Hunter, a founder of the London School of Architecture (LSA), has announced a plan to step down as the chief executive of the institution.
The Architects Journal reports that Hunter aims to transition out of his current role at the end of the 2020-2021 academic year. Hunter founded the school to help provide an alternative track for attaining architectural education and work experience back in 2012.
Shortly after opening the school Archinect spoke with Will on our podcast about his goals of creating a "cost-neutral" model of architecture education, where students work part-time – for pay equal to the cost of tuition – while also attending courses.
In 2015, the school was formed as an official charity organization. In 2017, LSA received "Part 2" accreditation from the Architects Registration Board as well as validation from the RIBA, AJ reports. Now, the school is aiming to earn its "Part 1" accreditation, as well.
In 2017, 2 years after LSA's launch, Archinect caught up with Will. He commented, "In our first year, we had 30 students who came to us when we had no building, no accreditation and no history. But now having done those two years, we have a home at Somerset House, we completed our ARB accreditation, and the RIBA has validated us with no conditions, so we are a much stronger enterprise now."
Hunter will remain in his current role for the academic year before transitioning to become LSA's director of entrepreneurship on a part-time basis while he initiates new projects independently.

First, have to say I love those flower pots. Second, we have a similar educational model in the Netherlands, parallel to the technical universities, with our academies of architecture where students work 4 days a week and in the evenings and Friday they study at the academy. It is a great way to make studying architecture more affordable and gain valuable working experience at the same time. Curious what Mr. Hunter will be up to next, maybe he could have a talk with Ms. Ponce de Leon :)
Best wishes to Mr. Hunter.
