The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has elevated 116 architects to its prestigious College of Fellows.
The fellowship program, according to the AIA website, "was developed to elevate those architects who have achieved a standard of excellence in the profession and made a significant contribution to architecture and society on a national level."
In order to be eligible for fellowship, architects must be AIA members for at least 10 years while also demonstrating excellence in a number of arenas, including promoting the architectural profession, advancing the "the standards of architectural education, training or practice," coordinating the building industry and the profession of architecture "through leadership in the AIA or other related professional organizations," or by advancing the living standards of people "through an improved environment," according to the website.
In addition to the 116 Fellows, AIA has recognized five international architects with AIA Honorary Fellowship designations. Those five fellows are: Andrew Fox Bromberg, Hon. FAIA, Hong Kong, Bjarke Ingels, Hon. FAIA, Denmark, Regine Leibinger, Hon. FAIA, Germany, Tiantian Xu, Hon. FAIA, China, and Zhu Pei, Hon. FAIA, China.
Both groups were selected by panels made up of practicing architects.

Very please to see my former boss and mentor Sam Olshin, FAIA Pennsylvania, on this list. Sam taught me so many important ways to be an architect, starting with serving people who most need it and always, always being ethical and generous.
The AIA owns the Octagon House (shown in the photo accompanying this article) but it is not headquartered there. The AIA HQ is behind the Octagon House at 1735 New York Avenue, NW in Washington, D.C. The Octagon House is home to an "architecture & design museum displaying exhibits in a Federal-style house where James Madison lived," according to its Google Business page.
Hi Dawn, thanks so much for this correction. The caption has been updated.
Thank you, Antonio!
all of these talented architects and the AIA is dropping 100k for Bjarke Ingels to talk at the conference. What a joke.... time to revolt and start a new organization that cares about American architects
Wealth redistribution via AIA dues. LOL
