In What is it Like to Work At An Architecture Firm? YouTuber "Mooch" of Pigeonhead Architecture outlines what it's like to work as an architect. Using animated illustrations, Mooch covers all of the typical phases of a project: Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction Documentation, and Construction Administration.
This is followed by an overview of the various types of firms and how firm size can influence work flow. Looking at small, medium, and large firms, Mooch articulates that practices often fall into three categories: "efficiency based" firms that work on projects like parking garages, retail stores, and warehouses; "experience-type" firms who design schools, museums, or hospitals; and "expertise-type" firms like Zaha Hadid Architects, BIG, and Gehry Partners.

I think this is a very helpful video for those that are just starting out their careers and or schooling. I enjoy the practice of architecture much more than I like architecture school, which seems to be somewhat uncommon when talking to other architects. I worked for a lot of firms that fall into a lot of different categories that were mentioned in the videos. You may think coming out of school you only want to work for the large expertise firms, but you soon find out doing door schedules 3 years straight is going to get a little frustrating and lead to a lot of "project fatigue". I then went to a small "efficiency" firm and found I really enjoyed the fast pace and ability to be exposed to a lot of different project types.
