Budapest-based design studio Hello Wood has designed a new "Art Shield" pavilion that protects and highlights an iconic monument in the city. The temporary structure shields the Vörösmarty monument, which is located in a popular square that has recently undergone renovation.
According to a press statement from Hello Wood, "The huge, arched structure owes its airy quality to its weatherproof steel sheets, while the transparent plexiglass facade protects it from the driving rain." The goal of the design was to focus on a high-quality, streamlined approach for yearly assembly and disassembly of the seasonal pavilion. The studio explains that the overall shape and plan of the installation was optimized to the particularities of the monument and to the elliptical design of the square itself.
"Its structure and use of materials ensure that the pavilion highlighting and displaying the statue will remain an ethereal but determining feature of the square even after the Christmas Fair," explains the design team.
For the project, Hello Wood aimed to create a "conservational structure" overhanging the monument that protects the statue during the cold and wet winter months while simultaneously highlighting the monument's place within the square " The temporary installation will be disassembled at the end of the winter season and will be reassembled the following year.
