Italy’s cultural heritage ministry announced on Friday (May 31) that it would revoke a lease granted to Bannon after reports of fraud in the competitive tender process. The former Breitbart chief and aide to US president Donald Trump was reportedly paying €100,000 ($110,000) per year to rent the 13th Century Carthusian monastery, but now will have to search for another spot. — QZ
What was once the potential site for a training academy for the far-right, the Italian state evicts the conservative Catholic organization Dignitatis Humanae Institute (DHI) due to reports of fraud. According to a recent report from The Economist, institute director Benjamin Harnwell was shocked by the news, while the former aide to US President Trump stated the letter was "totally legitimate" and "dust kicked up by the left."
The plans for transforming a medieval monastery near Rome into the center for these "cultural warriors" of the far-right included the prospect that students "would learn philosophy, theology, history, and economics, and receive political training from the former Trump aide himself."
Unhappy with the recent news of losing the monastery, DHI plans to fight the decision in court. “The DHI will contest this illegitimate maneuver with every resource at its disposal no matter how many years it takes. And we will win and in the meantime, we relish the opportunity to fight our case in court” proclaims Harnwell.

good, but why is it here?
You think it’s good for the state to shut down free assembly and speech? Not sure the details of the lease thing, but this is not good even if it’s a group spreading ideas that I disagree with. This is why we must protect our US constitution fully and without compromise.
Unfortunately Most of the world doesn’t have such protections.
This would be a clear first amendment violation if it were in the US.
The lease was revoked because of forged documents, it has nothing to do with free speech.
So they say...it was obviously a move to shut down a political movement...despite the technical doc they used. Don’t get me wrong, nationalism is the complete opposite of what I believe, but we should protect all forms of speech, even the ugliest speech, not just the easy stuff to defend.
jla-x, so the Italian government is just supposed to look the other way if the people defrauding them are part of a political movement? How does that make sense? It wasn't being a far right movement that got their lease revoked, it was using a fraudulent letter (as stated by the bank that supposedly issued it) to guarantee that lease.
Not if the fraud is legitimate, but I suspect the big magnifying glass was taken out for this one. They shouldn’t inspect certain groups with greater scrutiny because of political leanings. I don’t know enough about the details of this to comment further, but If I had to bet $ I’d say they probably were looking for some legal slip up to justify taking them out.
jla-x, are you Steve Bannon? If not STFU
Are you a moron?
"I don’t know enough about the details of this to comment" ...should've stopped typing there.
Seems like you're grasping at some pretty flimsy straws to draw conclusions about something you admittedly know little about just to justify your continued trolling. They can have their chance to in court to prove the letter as legitimate. Until then, any claim that this is an attack on free speech, or political in nature, or discriminatory is really beside the point and obvious trolling.

I highly doubt any of you know the full story. I qualified my posts by admitting in the first post that I didn’t know all of the details, just had a suspicion...and far-right means very little these days. Seems anyone who won’t bow to Marxism gets lumped into that big group.
"I highly doubt any of you know the full story" as much as you. But some have the decency to not open their mouth and give air to balderdash.
Suspicion on what, 30 lines of a generic informative line of a single news paper far thousand of miles from Italy? The problem is not far Right, is Far-what ever, with highly international organized background and huge amount of money and networks with very questionable organizations and past history. It's not a bunch of citizen meeting and ranting about extreme ideologies or a group a unemployed fanatic hooligans.
In these days "far something" mean A Lot, because many of the extremists in politic and industrial organization are smart enough to not to reveal shamelessly their ideals or projects. So, when you meet a bunch of organized associations with several unknown founding you should get pretty alarmed, because they are mad enough to go around remembering the "good old time" when moustached blokeS gone around raising "summer and winter camps" all around.
Do you at least know contemporary history? Your pretentious ignorance and superficial knowledge is the base of all dictatorship and chaos.
Freedom should be a universal right
And it should be regulated, it sound incoherent but it's not.
Freedom is the space/boundaries you have before you cross the freedom of something else and you or the other start to pay the consequences.
In a society freedom should be regulated as much as the complexity of its organization and its population density, because complex actions equal to complex consequences and density will naturally increase it, but a good organization will make this regulations more light and nimble.
Regulating freedom it's not limiting it, it's educating the people about their actions and consequences, and the dangers that can cause.
Some people will naturally not be interested in possible dangerous consequences to the others, since their action will be intentional and planned from the beginning.
Now some could thing that speech is harmless but remember that the pen is mightier than the sword, especially in a land of morons.
Hitler docet, as all the other left, right, up down, extremists.
Freedom should be protected, and one way is to limit it.
Ideally regulations should be balanced, but ideals lives in the realm of thoughts, so of dreams and nightmares, and often when they become real they born as monstrosity because their fathers and mothers were gods and not normal people.
So, in the reality freedom is not much different from the illusion of democracy. There is, but as much as in a christmas glass ball with snow can give, you can live in it and feel free and happy or realize that the reality is way more complex. But after all, the architects or maybe simply the life, was good enough to make your horizon feel free from unpleasant boundaries. Your smallness will make you pass unconscious of the big cogs that work over your head or if you prefer pass through the eye of the needle...
This is scary. Do you realize that this is the very thinking that has led to countless dictatorships on the left and right. Freedom of speech is absolute.
Scary is the blind mind that pretend to be able to judge and talk objectively and believe to be in the right.
I've seen people, able to believe and talk of things they even didn't know, repeating things like broken LP, communists, socialists, fascists, nazis, anarchists, christians, hippies... you name it. Dumb people are everywhere and the most dumb have the bad habit to get together and follow some crazy bloke because they feel misunderstood or rejected by the society and the promise of a solution for their problem make them relieve their stress, while the truth is just they are extremely dumb and are unable to live a normal life and find a solution to their own problems. These people don't know what they are doing, they have no objective knowledge of the past, they live in a dream disconnected with the reality, they are overpowered by their emotions, could be love or hope as much as hate. Lot of young people tend to be like that, they talk... and that's it, words smashed together because they sound good. Then there are the grown up, only for age because mentally are still underdeveloped. Freedom is good and we should be all free to live and express our self, but should be even free to harm some one else? Rules are not bad, A job is not a bad thing, Family is not a chain. If you are an architect you should know that rules make the building stand and not fall like dreamy card castles. Read some books and grow up.
Ps. Change freedom with housing and read again. Maybe can be more simple for you to understand.
You’re all over the map buddy. There is no such thing as limited free speech, otherwise it loses its meaning. Go move to China if you trust govt deciding what speech is acceptable. That’s the dumbest shit I’ve ever heard. People these days so willingly accept authority.
They should burn it
Given that the far-right committed nearly all politically motivated murders in the US last year, we might as well consider this a terrorist training camp.
Wow. Label people with certain politics as terrorists because of a few nuts...similar to how some people label all Muslims as terrorists because of a few nuts huh...?
"it was obviously a move to shut down a political movement..." "I don’t know enough about the details of this to comment" "Label people with certain politics as terrorists because of a few nuts.." These are not normal people, they are extremists and what ever political position they take it will always come out with extreme actions. We are not talking about Greenpeace, LGBTQ or some kind of environmental organization, but Far Right Fanatics (could be even left doesn't matter) in a recluse location with probable ties with upper and unknown organization to build up a select group of individuals, to teach "philosophy, theology, history, and economics"... why not even for straw baskets? That its obviously bull shit.
People should be not labelled in mass, organizations and dangerous affiliation and positions should. All Muslims are not terrorists but naturally fanatics muslims could be seen as a threat. Before you start talking you should think, and before you think you should clear you mind and try to be objective.
Some US citizen in good conscience and innocence overlap their life style on other societies without taking first in consideration their historical background, in USA there never been a WW, nor a far right or far left government as in other nations, US apart from the use of slave didn't really share any kind of historical issue of other countries (at least the negative one), it's always been a Safe place and not because they cared for their citizen or freedom or what else. " Don’t get me wrong, nationalism is the complete opposite of what I believe, but we should protect all forms of speech, even the ugliest speech, not just the easy stuff to defend. " Its sound different when you read all your posts or you must be so blind that it' s pretty scary.
Did you ever asked why the former aide to A US President (not a john does) came to another country thousand miles away from his land to build up in a secluded area a "sanctuary for moral and ethics"? because the air is fresh? because spaghetti are good? or the girls are nice? Doesn't it sound a bit fishy? Do you ever slightly know who Steve Bannon is? and what kind of operations and organizations he is in?
Did you actually read what I wrote?
I do and I'm not so surprised, there are a lot of people like you wandering like headless chicken and still able to live their life... it's a great miracle.
You missed the point.
Yes that it's useless talking with headless chickens. Maybe one day a miracle will happen and will grow something useful over your neck, not just a place to hang a hat or a pair of glasses.
"similar to how some people label all Muslims as terrorists because of a few nuts huh...?"
That was the joke, yes.
For the record, Steve Bannon is an asshole. I'm glad they're not letting him spread his divisive bullshit in such a beautiful location. Gladiator school in an old monastery? I'd suggest one of the many empty malls that emptied the towns of the very people he claims to be supporting.
