Ieoh Ming Pei, among the most well-known names in architecture, passed away overnight at the age of 102.
It was first announced online by Paul Goldberger, in this heartfelt tweet:
Some sad news: I’ve just learned that I.M. Pei died last night, at 102. The end of an architectural era, truly. A sad moment, but a career—and a life—worthy of celebration.

When considering the number of projects completed under his name over the course of a career spanning more than seven decades, it is difficult to say for which of Pei's buildings he is best known. In the Western world, it might be his controversial addition to the Louvre, completed in 1989; in the Eastern world, it might be the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong, completed in 1990. His distinct use of geometry and unique ability to respond to program made Pei a household name along with those of Hadid, Gehry and Wright.

Another day, another architect.
It is always a matter of time for all but I.M. Pei is one of a handful of architects that I personally liked and their work was generally well regarded.
We will miss him but we can still love his work and do what it takes to preserve and protect his work to the best of our ability. I'm sure we can make appropriate adaptive reuse of his work when necessary but respect his work.
One of my favorite architects, may his soul rest in peace.
may the triangles be with him.
