The project's latest iteration does not diverge significantly from its prior form, but does make adjustments to the Zumthor building's size and footprint. The most notable changes are a reduction in the square footage of the proposed building from approximately 390,000 to less than 350,000 square feet. Additionally, the removal of several planned galleries on the building's upper level will shorten its maximum height from 85 feet to 60 feet. — Urbanize Los Angeles
The recently published final environmental impact report for the ambitious $650m Los Angeles County Museum of Art redesign shows Peter Zumthor's swooping new building somewhat shorter and smaller than in previous planning iterations.
A new, revised timeline also cuts the expected construction period from previously 68 months to an estimated 51-month stretch.
Still in the books is the plan to span the building over Wilshire Boulevard, one of LA's major thoroughfares.
I know, it's weird, but I'm sort of warming up to this one. It's gotten more elegant in each iteration.
It's certainly much more lyrical and appealing than the Renzo Piano theater under construction around the corner on Fairfax. That one looks like some kind of tick-like bio-mechanical parasite attaching itself to the back of the streamlined May Co building. Ick.

The unwillingness to engage this new building with the adjacent (and practically brand new) Renzo Piano museum buildings is bizarre. The LACMA campus is far from lovely, but Zumthor's current design will not help anything, other than generating press attention and, for awhile anyway, some additional traffic from curious visitors.
looks like an airport, but I kinda like it. The key will be to keep the space below activated With some sort of outdoor programming...the building definitely feels like LA to me.
The proposal formerly known as the Oil Spill ... this isn't any better.
hope you get a raise for "Grüezi, I shrunk the museum". actually i take it back. it apparently doesnt translate to honey

Yes, the theater ball and Peterson Auto Museum are both horrible.
so dumb how it spans wilshire and all of the art is fully exposed to the street and sunlight...paintings blasted by morning/late afternoon full sun...that's gonna be just great.
