Recapping our second event of the year, Archinect Outpost was excited to host Deane Madsen and his work on the newly published Concrete Los Angeles Map. Despite the rainy weather on that Valentine's Day evening, enthusiasts of Los Angeles and brutalism flocked to join us for the special event. During the presentation, Deane provided guests with a brief explanation of the brutalist movement and soon went into the style's influence on Los Angeles architecture, while sipping complimentary cups of Archinect's own Brutal coffee.
Madsen shared his passion for brutalist architecture and his journey to curating map guides of cities with these structures. This particular two-sided map features over fifty concrete structures around the Los Angeles area, beautifully photographed by Jason Woods. From Rudolph Schindler, John Lautner and Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Wood's original photography accompany Madsen's curated work in a beautifully printed map published by Blue Crow Media.
One of our most popular and fastest selling item at the Outpost, the Concrete Los Angeles Map is an excellent guide that helps you explore Los Angeles in a whole new way. You can purchase a copy of the map in-store or online today.
Over the course of the next few months, we will be hosting more events with notable architects, authors, critics and artists. Mark your calendars for our next event on March 6th, to celebrate The Architecture of Closed Worlds, the newest book by Lydia Kallipoliti. We hope to see you there!
