Today you can have a fully connected home complete with sensors to monitor temperature, humidity, air quality, energy usage, and more, and check in on almost any appliance from anywhere in the world with just a smartphone. But even with all of the various connected appliances, virtual assistants, and copious sensors that can be installed in a modern smart home, the “smart” side of things is still rather lacking. — The Verge
The Verge senior editor Dan Seifert asks: Wouldn't it be cool if my home could figure everything out on its own?

"the last thing you'd want, is for your home of the future to feel like it's living in the past". Cause that's never happened before. Then again, if you're building sustainable homes in the third world, it's cool.
i think this stuff is pretty cool. if you keep your smart watch on you, whatever is controlling your scripts/routines will know when you're asleep and when you wake up, what room you're in, etc. we may need a more robust scripting language is all (or it's already robust enough, i don't know). The only place i think it's falling short is that i have to say 'hey google' instead of 'hal.'
open the pod bay doors hal. hello hal, do you read me?

The idea of turning your home into '2001's HAL is supposed to put you at ease?

I'm starting to think Volunteer and Thayer-D are sock puppets.
Bots.
These are the kind of homes and neighborhoods an awful lot of people want but architects and builders seem incapable of providing. You can have a grotesque McMansion or something that looks like two double-wide mobile homes grafted together that was featured in the video with a refrigerator that has a door that becomes clear if you push a button on your smart phone.
you could put a google home or alexa in that house
I'm not really a fan of these... would not work in my neighbourhood. Regardless, those with money to build custom can choose these types rather easily and reality is, they don't fit the market.
That's where school shooters are made
