The Austrian branch of Penda reveals a residential high-rise for Tel Aviv defined by arches and cascading terraces. The design responds to the broad display of the city’s Bauhaus era and responds to the city's climate challenges rather than opting for another glass tower.
Defined by the arch, the structure's design allows for views while still minimizing openings to direct sunlight in order to cooperate with the mediterranean climate. Varying terraces are used as a shading devices while also functioning as a vertical neighborhood for residents.
The condominium tower measures approximately 380 feet in height featuring about 58 square feet of residential areas on 18 floors. The building will house a range of residential layouts from 1 bedroom to 4 bedroom apartments, as well as penthouses with double-height spaces on its top.
A cave-like pool and spa area will occupy the base of the building, while community areas like a yoga-studio, a restaurant, and shelter spaces are shared on the first two floors.
‘Tel Aviv Arcades’ is a work in progress set for construction in 2019.

Lovely
looks reminiscent of the dizengoff tower. great design.
finally thanks Penda - after all these years of formalistic approach, Penda made a great example of ARCHITECTURE! Engineering Sculpture.
Only one question: brick? Concrete precast may work too.
p,s. I would love to join your team Penda
Beautiful!
Question: in case of fire is it allowed to have only one staircase in Israel or is there any other escape route we can't see on plans.
second stair will ruin this beauty, may it has some type of fire escape thru these wide balconies from upper levels to the lowest- fifth level and also sprinklers can help
that is clearly a scissor stair. two fire isolated stair rises within one shaft, hence the doors at either end of the shaft, one into rise 1 and the other end into rise 2. extremely common way of efficiently providing 2 separated paths of egress in minimal space
...and also a terrible way to put all your egress eggs in one fragile basket.
to count them as two separated exits without firewall is a question, I think this layout from presentation but anyway thanks
Not a fan of brick soffits. The bricks look like they want to fall on your head. And probably will someday.
Agreed, but the rest is nice. I was hopeful when I saw the brick "arches" but...
I like this project a lot. It appears to be a very rare example of a parametric formalism that actually works beyond the scale of the very large, to result in a humane place. The apartments look like they'd be great places to live.
Miles is right about the brick, though.
structuralism
Yep, it's structuralism, alright. But it looks as though it could have been designed by asking, "what aesthetic qualities would make great apartments in the Tel Aviv climate", and then expanded that into a parametric structural regime, rather than coming up with something that looks cool, and backing into it.
Or maybe they just backed into it. Either way, nice building.
Looks very cool in detail, but boring over the whole building, to say nothing about maintenance.
Aside from the bricks, a great project. Owes a lot to Safdie's Habitat.
Wow. Gorgeous. I echo concern about that double-helix exit stair arrangement, though it's common in residential towers now.
I dislike brick ceilings as well, but aren't these really of concrete/plaster, then only edged with the brick beam soffits? That doesn't bother me so much.
And that long view of the tower revealing all of that wonderful depth of terraces is amazing. Take that, curtain walls and diving-board balconies!
Would've loved to see this in cross laminated timber or béton brut, the bricks are a real let down in my opinion of an otherwise interesting formal exercise.
Yes, this.
One of the few places here we see some beauty and general agreement.
wow
it's a great design by Penda Co. But I noticed that plan A and plan B are not typically in columns. thanks
