Witold Rybczynski: A Tool for Sitting | October 5, recommended by Justine Testado

Grab a seat for this midweek talk featuring architect and writer Witold Rybczynski, who will discuss his new book about the social and technological history of the almighty chair. A book signing will follow. Admission is free for NYSID students/staff/faculty, $10 for seniors and non-NYSID students, and $12 for the general public.
Gay Gotham: Art and Underground Culture in New York | Opening on October 7, recommended by Nicholas Korody
The status of New York as a beacon and safe haven for queer people is so cemented in the popular imagination it approaches cliché. Throughout the 20th century, the city fostered radical, creative networks of queer artists, writers, and thinkers. "Gay Gotham" is an exhibit that explores this history and opens on October 7.
Talking with Stone: The Noguchi Museum | October 8, recommended by Justine Testado
Have you visited the Noguchi Museum lately? Tour the recently revamped building with designer Sage and Coombe Architects, who will talk about the 15-year multi-phase project. Afterward, Isamu Noguchi scholar Deborah Goldberg will lead a gallery talk about the multi-disciplinary artist and his design work.
Reading Room: A Catalog of New York City’s Branch Libraries | Open now until January 7, 2017, recommended by Alexander Walter
Visiting all 210 branches of the extensive public library systems of New York City is a fascinating yet laborious undertaking. Luckily architectural photographer Elizabeth Felicella has already done the leg work for us and neatly compiled her photographic documentation in this exhibition at the Center for Architecture.
