If perhaps you thought after last week's busy schedule at Clerkenwell Design Week you might get to have a rest this week, we are sorry to say (not that sorry), that will have to wait; this week marks the opening of the much celebrated annual event, the London Festival of Architecture.
As always the festival aims to provoke debate and catalyze change surrounding the future of the city, not only within the architectural sphere but most importantly within the public realm. This year's theme of ‘Community’ comes at a particularly interesting time when the city’s identity, and skyline, is in news hands after the election of the new London Mayor Sadiq Khan.
The festival encourages Londoners as well as visitors to the city to actively participate and directly engage with London. There will be installations, redesigned public spaces, consultations, workshops, exhibitions, talks and debates and that's just a few of the ways you can get involved.
As if that wasn’t enough for you, don’t worry, there is still the usual abundance of events throughout the city, including the beginning of degree show season. It’s all go in the city that can’t curb its creativity!
Here are Archinect and Bustler's top London event picks for the week of June 1-7:
What Does the City Mean to You? | June 3
Ben Adams architects ask, ‘what does your city mean to you’? “Through a series of curated and interactive exhibitions and displays, in our busy South London studio, we want to find out what the city means to you, how you think it will change and the best (and worst) things about urban living.” A chance to have a sneak peek around the studio and have your say.
Through a series of striking installations across the city this short film aims to address the housing crisis in London. Produced by AVR London and Anise Gallery it looks at unused ‘pockets of space’ within the city. A new sensitive and intriguing approach to housing crisis.
Kingston University Undergraduate Degree Show 2016 | June 5
The season is upon us! Well worth a visit to see what our future architects have to offer. The exhibition includes work from the Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture and runs until the 10th.
