"A Needle Woman: Galaxy was a Memory, Earth is a Souvenir" (2014) by Kimsooja.
The prolific and multi-disciplinary conceptual artist Kimsooja operates on scales both architectural and nanotechnological. Her conversation with Steven Henry Madoff, critic and Chair of Curatorial Practice at the SVA, will cover her breadth of work, as well as reflect on a recently released documentary featuring one of her projects, "A Needle Woman: Galaxy was a Memory, Earth is a Souvenir" (2014), a 46-feet-tall steel and polymer conical structure installed on the Cornell campus.

The grand maestro himself will be visiting New York City as part of The Architectural League’s Current Work series, co-presented by the School of Architecture of The Cooper Union and The Noguchi Museum. Ando will present his firm's work in this public lecture – not that anyone wasn't already familiar with his vast catalog of iconic landmarks.
Book Talk: “Gowanus, Brooklyn’s Curious Canal” | May 12, recommended by Nicholas Korody
The Gowanus Canal conjures images of – well, not so much images as much as scents. The industrial dumping site has a bad reputation for its stench and for its seedy goings-on. But it wasn't always like that. Joseph Alexiou, author of “Gowanus: Brooklyn's Curious Canal” will trace the history of the waterway from its Revolutionary War-era origins to the present.
New Practices New York 2016 Opening | May 12, recommended by Paul Petrunia
New Practices New York is a biennial competition to showcase emerging talent based in the NYC region. The competition is open to practices founded in 2006 or later. This years winners include MODU, SCHAUM/SHIEH, stpmj, Studio Cadena, Taller KEN and Young Projects. The exhibition of work will be opening this Thursday, May 12, at 6pm at the Center for Architecture.

In celebration of the Socrates Sculpture Park's 30th anniversary this year, LANDMARK showcases eight different artist projects that transform the Park's landscape both physically and symbolically. The exhibition looks back on the institution's history, from its start as an industrial landfill and illegal dumping ground to a reputable social public art space for anticipated events like the yearly Folly installations.
