After four years of work, long time friend Sydney Pollack has completed a documentary on the life of architect Frank Gehry.
Sydney Pollack has taken a cue from Michael Moore and has made a feature-length documentary called Sketches of Frank Gehry. He's just finished production after working four years on the project.
Pollack's film covers the architect's rise and the motives behind his creative process. The director and architect have been friends for more than 25 years, during which time the architect designed such cutting-edge structures as the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles; the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain; and a recent commission for a performing arts building on New York's ground zero.
Pollack's picture includes interviews with Dennis Hopper, Julian Schnabel, Philip Johnson and Ed Ruscha. It was produced by Ultan Guilfoyle for Pollack's Mirage Enterprises and SP Architecture. Executive producers include Susan Lacy, Stanley Buchthal and Maya Hoffmann. It is a co-production with PBS' American Masters series.
The film is currently looking for distribution through Cinetic Media, which sold the documentary Mad Hot Ballroom to Paramount Classics and Nickelodeon.
