The published renderings that accompanied the announcement were not terribly reassuring, as they depicted a very long curved terminal with gangly tentacles raised over plane taxiways that hinted at torsos of praying mantises: an awkward rather than a graceful vault. — 6sqft.com

Great design work
The design work was done by HoK not Shop and whoever else he listed in the article.
If there is anything interesting about this project, they're not showing it in these renderings. The most exciting part of this is that there will no longer be trash cans every 50 feet to catch leaks. I hope they can also somehow renovate the attitudes of LaGuardia employees.
I'd love to see some plans - it's hard to figure out the scale of things or the circulation strategy from these little renderings. It's not clear from the press release if the new airport has actually been designed, or design will commence in 2016 if approved. My guess is the latter.
While this in no way seems like a best in the world airport, I don't think architectural design alone could ever get it there. It's still only the city's 3rd place airport by size, with no room for runway expansion. I wonder how these plans tie-in to efforts to repeal the law limiting service to flights within 1,500 miles. Without repealing that, I suspect Delta would pull out of their share of this redevelopment (half!) and La Guardia will remain just a convenient-ish regional airport. With a terrible wait for taxis.
While I appreciate Horsley's criticism, he seems to be missing a sense of perspective on this. For example when he suggests adding a direct subway link to Manhattan would be an inconsequential couple million. Off by a factor of 5,000 or so I think.
I think most people would be happy with "not a sht hole"
Did anyone notice that the proposed air train is between LGA and Willets Point? WILLETS POINT!!!!!!! That's almost the end-of-the-line. So you have to take a subway way out to Flushing to catch a train when most air travelers will be coming from Manhattan.
