Right after Pauline Schindler died. Some of the stories I heard made Kings Road house look like a real party palace. When I was there lots of architects would drop by….I hope they get this play right. The tales are true, the names famous."
Episode 33 of Archinect Sessions, which featured a discussion with Patrik Schumacher, about celebrity and the insularity of critical discourse in architecture, generated a ton of commentary. Thayer-D appreciated the balancing act ken koense and others in the Session’s crew do "in these interviews. Ultimately it's more important to retain the dialogue than to make a polemic IMHO" To Marc Miller questioned Schumacher mode of language, as it is "clear...that he is grounded in postmodern theoretical discourse that frames matters in social, economic, and political conditions- the marxist three legged stool. However, parametricism is not grounded in cultural curation in the way postmodern critique is...curious as to why he uses a mode of language that is ineffective given his interests"
Alexander Walter shared the news that five members of the Cooper Union’s board of trustees have resigned, following the earlier resignation of President Jamshed Bharucha. boy in a well "went down the internet hole on this one for a bit" and his reaction "satire of satire of satire out there. fucking over the top...fuck epstein's blame the alumni shit. and fuck slavin's tuition is here to stay...lets have the AG investigation continue and let's at least find out the idiotic arc that brought the thing down (or down-ish). Lets get the names and bring the shame".

Vincent DeFazio penned A short commentary on change and architecture. Therein he argues "When unleashing a creation upon the earth, designers must remember there will always be an additional variable involved that can never be accurately calculated. The best way to plan for change is to understand the ways in which we think, do and make must never be fixed but instead malleable."

Discussions/Threads
Mthomas1993 wants to talk about the 'tiny house' movement. IamGray believes "little living-cubes, micro houses and the like will probably remain niche products for a very specific clientele" but "could certainly see more apartments in the 400-800sqft category" in cities like San Francisco, NYC and Toronto. dia is personally "a big advocate and of micro-architecture as a forum for architectural innovation". However, chigurh argues it would be "Miserable to live your day to day life in one of those things" and geezertect agreed "You can't live a half-way normal life in 300 s.f."
After reviewing results of Archinect Salary Poll. bowling_ball is shocked by some of the numbers for "for licensed project architects in places like SF, NYC, and Chicago". kickrocks countered “I can pick and point odd examples but the data suggests a different maximum for experience and licensed individuals”. A number of commenters reacted favorably to Stephanie Braconnier's comment "Architecture education spends the majority of its time diddling around with aimless design exercises like attempting to birth a relevant architectural form from the texts of Heidegger. The result is a masterclass of indentured internship slaves who can't detail a garden shed."
Responding to the OP, rationalist added "you should be careful making these sorts of comparisons. It's not that architects are undervalued, it's that there's this crazy little tech bubble going on in SF that your younger brother has found a way to get in on and you haven't. Don't make it into some giant thing that it's not." On a related note Good_Knight recommended Perspecta 47: Money "Helps ameliorate a bit of the vertigo and makes the nauseating experience less intense". Carrera chimed in "In a profession that only dedicates about 15% of its billable time to design – there then is an 85% chance you’re going to end up being a CADMonkey."
Finally, Orhan Ayyüce started a thread to announce that "For a limited amount of time, I am banning concept diagrams and process drawings because they are giving my students too many reasons to rationalize bad building design". BulgarBlogger starts things off with some name calling "You are an idiot and should stop teaching immediately." After a bunch of other negative commentary Donna Sink couldn't "understand why everyone here (Bulgar especially) is being so nasty on this thread. Orhan is raising questions about how to teach building design to architecture students. Next semester they'll have a different professor who will teach them a different approach. Why all the angst?"
kungapa took the opportunity to differentiate between "Diagrams that TELL you the information that they convey" and "Diagrams that SHOW you the information that they convey". midlander commented "Orhan's right - design without them first and see where that gets you. They've become the architect's version of a soundbyte". Later Chris Teeter admitted "I am an architect. I practice daily the items listed in Calcs post. I have never under any circumstance ever created a diagram for the purposes of developing a design. I prefer to imagine the space, the materials, the lighting, and the human activity".
