Look out—not up—because there’s a new low-rise Rafael Vinoly-designed building coming our way. The architect mastermind behind the city’s tallest residential tower, 432 Park Avenue, has just been chosen to to design a comparatively demure ten-story office-and-retail building in the Meatpacking District, reports The Real Deal. The new addition is being developed by Vornado Realty Trust and Aurora Capital Associates and is located on the former site of Prince Lumber at 61 Ninth Avenue. — 6sqft.com

starchitect?
Real estate press really is the worst. Everyone blames architects themselves for "star" status, but I suspect that its the real estate industry that overemphasizes the most superficial aspects of what architects do and who they are.
Seriously. This word is being overused.
from now on if you are declaired a "starchitect" you must wear something other than black turtlenecks. You need to stand out amongst the regular boring architects. Pull some lady Gaga shit. A meat suit, some lazer cut geometric pasties, a penis gorde like those guys in New Guinea...
I think the press needs to learn how to actually talk about architecture, instead of personality. The same thing happens with politics in the US. Instead of talking about policy and how government works or doesn't work, they focus on the personalities involved.
I wonder if this one will incinerate cars and melt asphalt like the other Vinoly buildings.
S**********, a slur invented by the media to degrade architects as non-essential luxuries. Guess what, the public is so ignorant nowadays about the value of architecture that there are no s**********.
I'm surprised how many so called journalists repeat this... probably cause the PR and media are one and the same. Someone should shame these publications....
but is he a licensed starchitect? .....i am an intern starchitect.
Hyperbole sells advertising, which is the primary goal.
On a somewhat related note, I once worked on a construction bid for a Vinoly designed house that showcased his talent. 15' double cantilever in single depth of framing; continuous tile floor extending over concrete slab, wood framing and steel framing; 8" concrete block wall 30' high and 120' long, etc., etc., etc.
Actually, according to that experience he might just qualify as a starchitect.
i thought the black turtleneck was all you needed to be a starchitect. you wouldn't say steve jobs wasn't an architect would you?
It's not located at the former site of Prince Lumber. It's located at the current site of Prince Lumber...
...the future former site.

^ chuckled at this joke. But I do fully admit that he's a starchitect by definition, and while disregarding many subjective opinions on his worth and value to the industry, I will also admit that I admire his career and the position he has situated himself in because he's got it made until he retires. You can't deny the assumption that he's worked harder than all of us to find himself in this position (albeit, he's probably got at least 20 years on most of us).
link appears to be broken.... believe this is correct link
