Could the answer to London’s congestion be a network of subterranean cycleways? A new project from design firm Gensler suggests that maybe – just maybe – it might. Dubbed the London Underline, the project would turn London’s abandoned tube tunnels into living streets beneath the city. [...]
London Underline is being taken seriously enough in some quarters. Earlier this week, it won the Best Conceptual Project gong at the London Planning awards.

Are cyclists really causing so much trouble at street level in London that they must be pushed underground, or overground?
Making use of abandoned tunnels would be great, but removing pedestrians or cyclists from the surface level can't be good for business... (just to state one obvious problem with this proposal).
Well, the article rightly points out that the idea is ridiculous. A big part of the pleasure of biking (or walking) is being outside and seeing the city. Gensler's absurd proposal has all the potential joy of taking a people mover between terminals at the airport.
Might as well just give in and take the bus at that point.
Wait, abandoned underground tunnels?! And they have congestion problems, maybe restoring tube service should be an option.
Looks like it was designed by rapists.
Isn't this a missed opportunity to call it "The Bike Tube" ??
