Are you joking? Go ask a Latino based org. I am not interested in assisting anyone from a Latino based org. Its racist to even ask and frankly my business has [been] ruined by fucking illegal immigrants. Are we clear! Don’t ever email this address again. If there weren’t so many damn illegal immigrants in this state, i would have work for myself. Now piss off! — Latino Rebels
'Landscaper Refuses to Help Berkeley Students Because of ‘F*cking Illegal Immigrants’. This quote is not from the Onion, but written as a response to Vanessa Hernández Juárez, a member of UCal Berkeley’s Chican@/Latin@ Architecture Student Association who e mailed Sachi Landscape asking for a studio visit from UC Berkeley Landscape Architecture students.
I like how one of my favorite cartoonists Lalo Alcaraz responded to Sachi.
“Are you the racist landscaping company? I’m looking for one, thanks.”
Sorry.
Before I became a freedom-loving cartoonist and writer, I used to be an architect in training.
I got my Master’s Degree in Architecture from UC Berkeley, and as I said, I was a member of CASA. Our purpose was to give each other support as Latino students at a big, daunting and prestigious university, and to form relationships with professionals in our intended profession. Field trips to firms often led to internships, experience and future employment.
To be an architect, or a landscape architect in California you must be licensed, and behave in a professional manner. Helping students regardless of their ethnicity or national origin is part of that architect’s professional duty.
Discriminating against people because of ethnicity or national origin in business is against the law. This hateful person on the other end of that email does not deserve to be a licensed landscape architect in California, if they are now one. They are free to have and express their opinion, no matter how hurtful and hateful it is, but the community deserves to know what kind of company Sachi Landscape is, and that it does business in Berkeley, California. I hear Berkeley has a few liberals and Latinos and a couple of pro-immigrant liberal Latinos. Many with landscapes.
As you can see, their belief that “fucking illegals” are ruining everything isn’t true, as Sachi Landscape is still in business.

Apparently, while not tolerating human immigrants, they do tolerate plan immigrants
We drought-tolerant plants from Australia, Asia, New Zealand and South Africa, as well as native California species. - Sachi Landscape
and they're fine with Asian aesthetics:
Sachi uses the principles of Feng Shui and traditional Asian aesthetics to create a balance of elements within outdoor spaces - Sachi Landscape
So they love plants and aesthetics from elsewhere, its just people from elsewhere that they don't like.
That would be called a dendrophile xenophobe.
Our purpose was to give each other support as Latino students
why can't you just be students and support each other as fellow students? why the obsession with categorizing and segregating yourself?
Helping students regardless of their ethnicity or national origin is part of that architect’s professional duty.
no, you are not required to give free tours to students as '... part of (your) professional duty.'.
Discriminating against people because of ethnicity or national origin in business is against the law.
giving a free tour to students is not part of the landscape company's 'business' or business obligation. just like a client can chose any architect they want to hire so to an architect can refuse to do business with any client (and again, those students were not clients or even potential clients).
This hateful person on the other end of that email does not deserve to be a licensed landscape architect in California, if they are now one.
i looked up the name and they are not a licensed landscape architect. wow how hard was that to do? sure go ahead and protest them but don't start calling for the p.c. thought police to un-license people for asshole e-mail responses.
so this is whats going on in my 'hood - ?
California used to be Mexico yo, kinda hard to avoid Hispanic people in CA, nothing new.
You would think since she is a black person , she would be against racism, guess not....
Has anybody contacted Shale Well/Sachi to let her know this correspondence has been posted in a public forum?
I wonder how she would respond? especially given the bay area tends to be overly PC...
$100 bucks it was one of her office admin staff or a disgruntled employee who wrote that response? She must be going cuckoo if she really did write that herself
The only response from the owner was so far. And that is it.
UPDATE: The owner claims her email was hacked.
