Execs of the Performing Arts Center at the World Trade Center have officially shelved the starchitect’s design planned for Ground Zero. Gehry drew up plans for the art center over a decade ago and very few moves were made to bring the project to fruition...The snub, which actually wasn’t communicated to the architect directly, seems to not have affected him much, and he had some choice words for the board’s President, Maggie Boepple. — 6sqft

Good, I've had enough of his nonsense.
“She says I build models,” he said to the New York Times. “She doesn’t have a clue as to what I do or how I do it.
Like crumpling up a wad of paper?
It’s fine…They should do what they want. I don’t want to go where I’m not wanted.”
Like Washington D.C.?
Gehry h8rs suck
:(
this article is not just conveying news
when it uses language like "dumped" and " features the usual jumble of non-uniform volumes"
in my opinion, this language inches towards expressing crass, snide, proxy obloquy
dumped? jumble? yes, I suppose there is some hating going on. And Gehry has much more than "a signature style", if one pays attention.
i think it's FUCKING high-larious that a guy who calls this 'art':
it's the BIG BANG THEORY!!!!! (also other clever titles like not 'c' blocks ~ nazi, get it?)
degrades Gehry's work as just '... crumpling up a wad of paper?'
fuck off you hack
LOL

You can tell a lot about a person's mental state from their writings. Personality disorders become readily visible.

Mr. Jaffe acknowledged that there is a strange self-cannibalism to his quest. In fact, his own home lies about a quarter mile from the Candy Kitchen, the Bridgehampton greasy spoon that he lists on his site as a possible detonation target. “Nuke the Hamptons,” Mr. Jaffe intoned, “is really the equivalent of calling in an artillery strike on your own position when you’ve been overrun by the enemy.
Every single move that has happened at the WTC site has been appalling and gross. Everything. It's a huge embarrassment to our country.
Apparently somebody has never heard of satire. Or is too dim to grasp the concept. That website got 1/2 a million visitors a year for over a decade and tons of fan mail, much of it requesting additional targets. FYI that article was on the front page of the New York Observer. Glad you enjoyed it.
Back to topic: WTC is a combination of rabid corporate quest for profit, historical revisionism and blind patriotism. As such it is the perfect American monument, a concrete celebration of jingoism. Thus the need for name-branded architecture.
With all due respect to that tragedy that took the lives of so many innocent people in those buildings, from the point of view of building symbolism, what is being replacing if not rather bland symbols of profit and economic hegemony. ( Even from an architectural point of view, it is their absented silouette , the alteration of skyline that is most significant rather than their architectural content . Its quite odd; its the absenting of the shape of the void around them more than their architectural content that has been raised to iconic symbolism. )
So, by erecting edifices dedicated to commerce -formally (assuming you make or accept the association relating certain forms to commerce), functionally- does that imply historical revisionism or faithfulness to history of the site...
