there is a book that was written as a thesis project on los angeles by an italian author. it is called 'la citta capitalista'. i've seen it in early 80's. it was written in 70's and was mentioned by mike davis somewhere. it predates quartz city and it was most objective and ahead of its time. this work is fairly unknown to date. i saw it in 'two rack' library of sci arc. we need more critical works for los angeles, a city pioneered its kind in global scale and still work-in-progress.
thanks for the news.
said thesis was done in UCLA urban planning dept. under charles moore, i believe.

cool, i will try to check that out when i get a chance, sounds interesting. i only saw a portion of the film last night, found it a good compliment to a lot that is already out there, but from what i saw, it was also too praising i thought of LA, too fabricating of its own image. And I am not so sure I am buying the myth? I dont know, I want to see it in its entirety first....very interesting nonetheless.
