The article isn't the first place to bring it up, but might be the spark that gets peak travel into the lexicon. Many future scenarios anticipate folks living in a much smaller/slower world where long distance travel is a luxury that most can't afford. Since airplanes contribute 2% of all the CO2e, this might just be a good thing.
so, if you want to explore exotic places, take the grand tour of europe/america, or go around the world, you better do it sooner then later.
The new UK PM already canceled the expansion of Heathrow, and it seems likely that very few new major airport projects will happen elsewhere. On this side of the pond, our interstates are crumbling and high speed rail is still a pipe dream. So it does seem very likely that our future freedom to roam will be curtailed.
