Wrong...not even close. The Biltmore Mansion:
"Biltmore Estate is a large private estate and tourist attraction in Asheville, North Carolina. Biltmore House, the main house on the estate, is a Châteauesque-styled mansion built by George Washington Vanderbilt II between 1889 and 1895 and is the largest privately owned house in the United States, at 178,926 square feet..."

Rennert's megamansion is filed at 43,000 but is estimated to be between 80,000 and 100,000 sq.ft.

VERY sad to see!
Curbed has updated their original posting, with the correction that the house will be the biggest in LA County, not the US. From Curbed:
"Work is already underway in Bel Air on a megacompound that will include the largest single-family house in *LA County (not the US!)."
Miles nailed it.
The rest of us know size isn't important, but quality is.
