A project that was initiated 25 years ago, it involved the complete restoration & re-design of a famous rural estate designed by the late Edward Maxwell. When purchased by my client the Main House had been carved up into living quarters fro two families. Careful and sensitive design work required the re-combination of spaces (i.e., eliminating 2 separate kitchens and designing one new one - budget for kitchen alone was $250,000.00). All oak panelling in Main Hall was delicately stripped to the core and brought back up by hand-staining, hand-rubbing, in place, to result in a careful gradation of tone from lighter centre up to graduated darker borders. The Master Suite and adjoining Master Bathroom/Dressing Room were all designed by myself......the brass support legs of the sink vanities were exact replicas of the wooden columns in the massive bedroom fireplace. Floors, walls, all highest quality marble wit mahogany trim, cornices and features. Dressing room doors delicately designed to a lacquer paint finish with 1/4" inlaid mahogany trim on each panel. All furniture, accessories, carpets (Persian Kermans) selected by myself in a totally comprehensive design/décor scheme .
Mr Kaufman remains a wonderful friend and client to this day. Subsequent to this project I designed his primary residence in Barbados (a plantation house restoration) along with all global deign of the corporate offices of the Kaufel Group.
