Sky Lounge

The Sky Lounge transforms one of Florida International University’s buildings and takes advantage of the courtyard’s dramatic height, while considering the constraints of the existing building’s architecture. The project creates a flexible space that can serve for quiet study, conversation, contemplation, gathering, outdoor film viewing, and occasional presentations. The design solution provides users and passersby a destination unlike any other on the FIU campus. Over 3,000 air plants hang from stainless steel braided shapes overhead and large circular benches, custom-designed for this project, that provide a place to sit back, relax and take in the sky view above.  The blue glass floor surface, and the vines will eventually cover the surrounding walls.  The Sky Lounge project is featured in the February 2014 issue of Landscape Architecture Magazine titled  “Epiphyte Club.”
