Santa Monica-UCLA Medical Center

UCLA replaced Santa Monica Medical Center’s earthquake-damaged facilities with a new community/academic hospital, closely integrating the programs of this community-based primary and secondary care center with the flagship UCLA Westwood Hospital as the tertiary and quaternary center. The project includes a 400,000-sf, 266-bed acute-care hospital, a 22,000-sf central plant, and a three-story, 520-space parking structure. The new hospital replaces all but the Merle Norman Pavilion building, which was renovated. Services include comprehensive inpatient and ambulatory programs with special focus on cardiology, emergency medicine, orthopedics and obstetrics. A multi-phased construction strategy maintained hospital operations throughout construction.
