As part of the Metro SR 710 North Study design team, Barrio Planners proposed two sports parks within the cut and cover tunnel areas in the North and South Portals of the freeway tunnels connecting the 710 freeway to the 210 freeway. The South Portal is located in El Sereno, north of Valley Boulevard, to include two soccer fields and three basketball courts, jogging track, and a community center. For the North Portal Park, located in Pasadena, north of California Boulevard, the site is narrow and deeper in elevation than the surrounding area. The sports park is designed in three difference tiers; parking level, jogging track level and sport field level which consists of two basketball courts and two tennis courts.
The North Portal park also included a monumental pedestrian bridge that is a vista point and connects people from Pasadena Avenue, to the proposed St. John Street without the need to descent in the partially terrain of the park, park amenities also included a community center.
