DESIGN CONCEPT
The unique aspect of cartoon and comic art is its ability to snapshoot a particular key frame along a time line of a story. A story is made of a collection of series snapshots which are linked by the reader’s imagination as the story develops. The exterior design concept of the cartoon and comic art museum is to showcase various snapshots with the latest lighting technology. The interior design concept is to create dynamic architectural spaces constantly stimulating the visitors’ imagination.
The double skin exterior envelope: exterior layer is covered by a unique transparent panel system made of solar cell and LED light cell. During the day time, the solar cells collect solar energy and covert electricity for the LED light show at night. The interior layer is a conventional curtain wall system with vision glazing. At night the exterior skin could be a soft bright lantern, or a continuing curvilinear mesh screen showing highlighted cartoon and comic art. and animation of the current exhibition.
The interior of the museum consists of a series of freeform floating islands. The changing view angles give unique snapshot opportunity as each visitor strolls through the spaces.
The museum successfully engages the indoor and outdoor spaces by offering open spaces at various levels, and separating the activity spaces from the vertical transpiration and service components (which are less dynamic) and connecting them by outdoor sky bridges.
