Fontainebleau Convention Lobby

Feature Construction Details:1. 120’ tall waterfall feature in conven-tion center lobby: due to the height, the water feature consultant suggested to step down the waterfall to reduce water speed, and enclose the water inside of the vertical ribs to avoid water splashing out as a result of the interior draft. The bottom of waterfall is an infinity pool.2. Floating serpentine feature: this sculptural piece is there for esthetical and safety reason. Visitors on the escalators when approaching to near the top will be protected by the feature to avoid height phobia. The circular center piece is a LED lighting feature. Also this serpentine sculpture is to signify the pool/ night club entrance at the top of the escalators. Due to its size and curvy nature, the structure en-gineer suggested to use space frames clad with GFRC. The space frames also allow for maintenance space behind the LED lighting feature.3. The double ellipse arches: these two arches are designed repeat the circu-lar theme of the project and to unify the entrance to convention meeting rooms and ballrooms. The freestanding smaller arch is also constructed in space frames to reduce the weight and cladded with S.S.. The base of the arch is substantial size for stability.4. Glass canopy/ chandelier: made of curved glass and suspended by steel cables. This feature was originally intended to signify the pool and night club entrance, however, was deleted due to concern over earthquake.Design concept was produced by hand and computer sketches. Construction de-tails were hand sketched for CAD operators.
