WORKSHOP: Porta Nord/Agorà

Selinunte is an archaeological site set in a plateau 30 m above the sea level. In the north side of the acropolis, on the axis of the “plateia”, an access point was opened (known as the north gate). Outside the north gate there is a long covered gallery, parallel to the northern wall of the bastion of the Acropolis and connected by arched doorways to the ditch dug between two hills, allowing quick exits for the troops in case of attack before the approaching of the enemy.

The project is placed in this point. First of all it is suggested a better and more accessible itinerary to visit this part of the ruins. After that is thought to design a grandstand to use this ancient fortification as the scene of the theatre. So, it is thought to reconstruct some parts of these walls to perceive the old magnificence of this place, and to let the people understand how this place used to be.

All these operations, the reconstruction, the grandstand and the pavement, are developed using only one type of construction system, the dry block. It is important to know that it is a reversible project and that there is no intention to damage the ruins, on the contrary, the intention is to revive this archaeological site and give new opportunities to this amazing place.
