The project is placed in Manresa, a city near Barcelona (Spain). Thanks to its central position in the geographic map of Catalonia, the city has always been an important communication hub. This is one of the reasons why Manresa became, throughout the XXth century, the heart of the industrial production of the country.
Nowadays, most of the industry companies have left the city and gone to other parts of the country. But there are still lots of buildings that remain intact throughout the city.
The idea is to design a dance school for the city. In the site where the project has to be developed there is still one of these industrial factories, in fact this was the old distillery of Manresa. Currently it is used as a warehouse for construction materials.
It is important to highlight that Manresa is a city divided in two parts, first due to the train line that is not underground and passes through all the city. The other factor is the big slope from one part to the other.
The intention of the whole project is to link the high Manresa with the low Manresa., understanding this place as a nodal point in the city to help the connectivity in the zone.
Some urban alterations are thought to improve the circulations of both public buses and cars that go to the station and the people who is moving in this area.
The idea for this project is to keep and restore the old distillery and use it as a concert hall or dance hall, adding an extention to house the school classes and all the other spaces needed. This new building is divided in two halves. The first half is defined by four volumes in the front that host the dance classrooms. The other half is a higher volume behind the classrooms where all the offices and services are located. Between the old building and the new one there is a space that helps to unify both parts and generates the entrance to the school.
