Honolulu, HI
This quaint 1927 Spanish-mission style cottage was built by the niece of Winston Churchill along East Manoa Road. It is said that the owner modeled it after the famous Royal Hawaiian Hotel, also completed in 1927. Like the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, it was painted pink on the exterior with green and white window trim.
With only 1100 square feet of interior space, more space was needed to allow for a private bedroom and bathroom for guests. Another request was for two cars to be able to drive onto their property and have direct access to the entry. 700 SF was added to include a master bedroom suite, exercise room and study. However, the charm of the house was an important consideration, thus rehabilitation of the existing home was chosen over demolition and rebuild.
