Position title: Senior Architect

Position purpose:  The Senior Architect works closely in collaboration with the Principal to develop the plan for new projects and embody the culture of the studio.  The Senior Architect will manage the work and professional development of Architects, Junior Architects & Interns. The Senior Architect will work collaboratively with the Project Manager and the Business Director. 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Design:

• Research and develop architectural design concepts that match the client's aesthetic, functional goals and budget.
• Assist Principal on the design and development of all projects.
• Create and oversee the schematic design process and documentation, the design development process and documentation, and construction drawing design and documentation.
• Prepare and circulate bid drawings to applicable contractors and fabricators.
• Assist in the preparation of applicable AIA contracts.
• Prepare drawing sets and documentation to be filed with local agencies including
• Ensure projects adhere to all applicable codes and energy standards.
• Manage item specifications and Construction Schedules.
• Coordinate with project consultants and engineers to ensure successful project deliverables. Provide construction administration throughout project construction.

Client Management:

• Attend client meetings, prepare meeting minutes, create task lists for distribution using studio project management software.
• Maintains knowledge of NYC building code and applicable ADA laws.
• Manages the design of HVAC systems, sprinkler design, lighting and electrical design.
• Oversee accurate and within-budget hours for self and project team.
• Maintain and grow thoughtful professional relationships with clients and vendors.

Administrative Responsibilities:

• Oversees multiple deadlines, project scopes and aesthetics simultaneously.
• Oversee accurate project action item lists in studio project management system.

Personnel/Human Resources responsibilities:

• Efficiently manage Architects, Junior Architects & Interns on multiple projects; demonstrate strong managerial and communications skills.
• Participate in the hiring, training and development and review of Architects, Junior Architects & Interns.

Business Development:

• Maintain existing, and grow new, vendor contacts and relationships.  

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

Master’s degree in architecture

Minimum of 5 years of experience

1+ years of experience as a Senior Architect

Office hours are 9am to 6pm, but please expect an occasional late evening or early morning to help set up for presentations.

Excellent communication and presentation skills, including space planning, hand and digital drafting.

Extensive experience selecting and specifying lighting, furnishings, hardware, floor/window coverings, materials, and finishes.

Experience with managing purchasing and budgets.

Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketchup, and Microsoft Office.

Work under pressure, produce deliverables and meet deadlines.

Experience managing staff on project teams.

Pay rate:  Salaried, with benefits.  Commensurate with experience.

Covid work protocol:  As of March 2022, each member of the office is working in the office Mondays - Thursdays and remotely on Fridays.  The office is following strict distancing, wearing of PPE and monitoring of health conditions.
