Joglo Union Villa

This interesting site situated to the east of the island overlooking the ocean sits slightly lower than the sea level beyond, with a raised bank separating the site from the sand. This means that views on the ground floor are limited to just the garden

at the rear of the house, whereas views to sea can only be made from the upper level. The client also desired that views into neighbouring plots be limited from the upper level. With access on both sides, the house has been conceived with double frontage. However the main feature of the house is the unique mixture of styles and forms. An original request was for the home to have an elements a traditional joglo. Using recycled Jati, two joglo structures have been incorporated into the upper levels. With an eyecatching central roof which brings the two together, a central focus is provided. A triple height space is then created in the centre of the home, providing a hallway which will give the opportunity to have a large open grand space and the option to contain features such as a small tree growing within. It also allows a more efficient distribution of space internally between rooms.
