TLK Apartments is a new 83-unit residential community for very low-income families and formerly homeless individuals in the Hunts Point neighborhood of the Bronx, New York. Developed by Brisa Evergreen, an innovative WBE organization dedicated to providing affordable and sustainable housing in low income neighborhood and supporting BE’s mission, TLK creates a sustainable and safe environment from which to build positive change.

Located on two vacant lots, between MTA’s elevated rail line and the busy thoroughfare of Westchester Avenue, the two opposite buildings occupy Rogers Place and Westchester Avenue, which includes a house of worship and community facility that wraps around the corner site. Designed as a unified composition, the two buildings blend into one another, and create a perfect infill of the urban fabric.

Creating a healthy and safe environment was a priority for the design team. The interiors are designed to ensure healthy indoor environment with low VOC materials, access to natural lighting, and warm sustainable finishes. Daylight exposure in the stairs and common areas are essential to promote resident’s well-being through Active Design and connection to the street and outdoor spaces. Outdoor roofs provide an opportunity for the residents to connect with nature and enjoy a wide variety of outdoor spaces.
