Gulliver’s Gate is a miniature world permanent exhibition set in Times Square, New York, NY. Housing highly detailed re-creations of the world with H0 scale vehicular sets, the organization was interested in creating a unique, fully-designed airport that is complete with not only small-scale kinetic planes that fly and taxi, but with all the airport’s infrastructure on display. This “Gulliver’s Gate Airport” exhibition was designed and curated by Gradient Architecture. A multi-billion dollar H0 scale model is currently built at the exhibit.
Both the concept of the contemporary airport as well as the experience of the exhibit went hand-in-hand, influencing not only the organization and circulation of the place, but also the airport massing and design tectonic. The design provides a section cut at a key area so that viewers can experience the airport to its full capacity, and the parametric skin system allows for viewership at key locations where it opens and rises.
