Located in the downtown area, this office building was thought to offer new connections in a neighborhood divided by differences in building scale.
The concept of a fluid and kinetic shape was developed as a solution to connect the different scales of the surrounding buildings.
In order to optimize the price of the building, we designed a modular timberframe facade system that includes a second skin made of exterior solar shades. A solar radiation analysis on each side of the building allowed us to define different types of facade modules based on the percentage of opening, the orientation, and the density of the solar shades.
By mainly using wood, the idea here was to prefabricate as many components as possible on the same manufacturing site and increase cost efficiency of the facades.
