New hotel and student accommodation facilities in the heart of Bilbao. Along with its striking views of the city’s riverside, the site presented the challenge of a steep slope, which was surmounted by the creation of a stepped volume. The broken volume was highlighted by the use of different pastel colours that provide a more playful vibe to the building, given that the young population is its target. Nevertheless, the whole complex is brought together by the repetition of the same module throughout all the facades. This was achieved through the use of precast concrete panels, which has also greatly speeded up the construction process. 572 lodgings were thus distributed: 176 as hotel rooms and 396 as student accommodation. Communal spaces were implemented in the ground floor, while a car park was established in the semi-basement.

I participated in the delivery of the Construction Documents of
this project, as well as the development of the site’s internal
urban design, which had to integrate an existing sequoia and deal
with the above mentioned slope.
