UPenn - UofT

archist.brett

I'm an int'l student, received BA in Arch Studies from UofT (Toronto), in 2009. I had a yr off working at an architecture firm, and now going back to school. too bad I couldnt put my work stuff in portfolio cuz of Dec. deadline to most US schools.

Altho my first choices were the GSD and Yale, I'm happy with my current choices. I just wonder if going to UofT impede my future practice in the States, (I assume I could get more connections if I go to Penn).

Not to mention the reputation of the schools, but I really have no idea how UofT (Daniels)'s reputation is conceived in Asia and US.
I've seen lots of comparisons, rankings, school data/stat of the States/European schools, but nothing much of Canadian schools.

both curriculums I love, focus on urbanism (merging landscape, urban design dept with MArch, + digital stuff at Penn)

any comment?

oh... the cost of Penn would double UofT's... (incl all tuition, living exp, traveling, etc)
the length of program 3yr vs. 3.5yr
ivy league vs. canadian school

+ possibly work in Asia too...

If I had the choice between UofT or UPenn, I would choose UPenn in a heartbeat.

Simply put, my decision would be contingent on funding.

If you were a Canadian citizen or permanent resident ($7500/ year at Toronto) I don't think there'd even be much of a consideration, but given that UofT feels the need to hose international students, Penn starts to look a little more attractive. Still 45,000/yr is a lot for anyone to swallow. Are you sure it would be 3 years+ at Toronto. I know people who qualified for advanced placement....Considering that was your undergrad, I wouldn't be too surprised if that was an option, no?
