Anyone know what software they use to convert illustrator like vector files into animated sequences? I wanted to look into doing these kind of animation to explain my projects on my online portfolio but I don't even know what to google for?! I tried After Effects but it doesn't seem to be completely aligned with what I'm looking for.
if it weren't for the lineweights in the details, I'd guess just a sequence of stills exported from a 3DS or C4D wireframe or similar, composited in after effects. The lineweights make me think flash. A combo of those? Curious myself. The sparks/glow/etc would be aftereffects. good stuff--that highline clip is great
anvi - that sequence was done in the 1.2 release of BRazil back in the day (rendered thru 3DSMax); doc z's suggestion should also get you something similar, although i don't know if Maya's render system will give you the kind of tight control over line weights that Brazil does...
Grid: there are perspective changes that would be "simple" to do in illustrator if you want to do every frame, but that would be dumb. Could you elaborate on how simple it would be?
John: you sound sure. Thanks! It seems 3dmax and Maya has built in timeframe tools that would make it more
viable than rhino+brazil?
i think that the animated linework was flash....it sure looks like it to me. there may have been some aftereffects applied after the flash animation was done.

Swift 3D
You can do it in Maya using the cartoon renderer in mental ray.

Yes...I prefer you to 3D max....it's the best but pretty complicated regarding controls.

That looks like all After Effects work - maybe starting with an illustrator drawing. It's pretty simple to do.
