like lounge and artists similar to dj mark farina, boards of canada... dont know how to actually describe.. just nice easy going music to play while i do work...
Jan Jelinek / Farben
Nat King Cole's recordings in spanish
John Coltrane "Ballads"
Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" (obvious choice, I know)
Tom Recchion
Soundtrack to "Punch-Drunk Love"
Jacques Dutronc
Black Box Recorder
Money Mark
Brigitte Bardot
The new offering from John Cale (ex Velvet Underground), called 'Hobosapiens' has its foundations in some cool DJ grooves but expands them into really intriguing songs. Cool for background, yes, but also much more interesting/rewarding when you focus on them.
Also, not typically in this category, the last few releases from Joe Henry, 'Fuse', 'Scar', and 'Tiny Voices', have the same qualities: chill music with depth. I'd start with 'Scar' if you're unfamiliar, but then check out the others.
Here are some I have heard on DI.fm that are really good
TasteXperience-Incarnate
The Irresistable Force - Nepalese Bliss (DJ Food Remix)

Yeah these are all great maybe someone has an FTP that they can set up so we can share. I have 1GB FTP server at school. Any ideas because some of these ARE hard to find and some poeple might already have them.
Someone up there had a great idea for this site.... posting songs for us to design vs. working drawings vs. shop drawing review vs. owner/contractor agreements vs. spec writing vs. model building. Get Javier on the horn man! How much bandwidth would something like that take?
I have no way to find some of that great stuff except for your suggestions.
Thanks... from a middle-aged computer just-literate Architect.

Donna Regina - a quiet week in the house

buy one or two of my cds... we write downtempo stuff. it's pretty damned good. really damned good actually. if you like fila brazillia, etc. you should like our stuff. (they actually did a remix for us once!)
plus you'll be helping me pay my arch school tuition.
if you like any hip-hop, Yesterday's New Quintet is probably your best bet for chill-out music. That or The Goldberg Variations of Bach: now that's structure!
Alpha this site is already slow as it is, I highly doubt Paul would stream 128m, but that would be choice. I am trying to think were we can DUMP all the chillout songs so we can share. Again, almost all of these are difficult to find - I am not sure of the legalities but I am not too worried since there are very few big labels AND it goes toward a good cause.
Thanks for the info Pimp. Don't really understand the technical issues other than what I learn from you folks.
Listening to kexp this morning, it seems like a very professional station to be university run bossman. Like you say not chill music necessarily, but good stuff so far, thanks for the link!
wolf eyes and lightning bolt would be the opposite of chill...i just got a funny visual of somebody wanting to relax and then putting on "ride the skies" per this thread's suggestion...
but yeah, nobody's mentioned:
yo la tengo
the sea and cake
black heart procession
does anyone know about this CD that's like house soft house and TANGO, i heard it at a dinner party but never asked what the name of the Cd was, i thought it was an excellent combo

I really don't enjoy the typical chill-out music that architects usually are so fond of, so here are some alternatives that are easy going without slipping into some "Café del Mar" sweetness:
Jan Jelinek / Farben
Nat King Cole's recordings in spanish
John Coltrane "Ballads"
Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" (obvious choice, I know)
Tom Recchion
Soundtrack to "Punch-Drunk Love"
Jacques Dutronc
Black Box Recorder
Money Mark
Brigitte Bardot
K&D
stuff from ESL
and these might be off, but i love to relax w/ these two artists, Pizzicato Five and Swing Out Sister
Kruder & Dorfmiester

, probably. Horrible, just give me good old Carlos di Sarli instead!
Sorry, the CD was probably called "Gotan Project". Narcotango is the name of the music and dancing style (open and looser than e.g. milonga).
